The Enchanting Vivarium at The Newt

At The Newt in Somerset, a birthday celebration became an immersive world of art, animals and botanicals created in collaboration with Lisa Vorce. A piece of scenic storytelling where flowers, interiors and installations unfolded as one.

Pink poodles dotted the lawns, whilst inside candlelit rooms revealed twisting branches, curious creatures and an array of burgundy hellebores, fritillaries, ranunculus, and wildly dancing tulips. Every room revealed a new layer of wonder, inviting guests to wander through a playful, dreamlike world where nothing felt quite real and everything felt magical.

Our process

Behind the scenes

It takes many hands and a disciplined orchestra of artists to build environments like this, every surface and texture considered long before a single stem is placed. Artists trained in Florence hand-painted each tabletop with botanical landscapes of twisting flowers, insects and imagined plant life.

These painted worlds were echoed through draping organza panels placed to softly cocoon the room, gently blurring the boundary between art and nature.
